Naphtali

Naphtali (Hebrew: נפתּלי, Naftali; "my struggle"), (b.2250 AM or 1754 BC), was the second son of Jacob and Bilhah (who was a servant to Rachel). He is the ancestor of the Tribe of Naphtali, one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. (Genesis 30:7 )

Entry into Egypt[edit]

In 2298 AM (1706 BC), Naphtali came to Egypt permanently, having visited Egypt twice before to buy grain during the famine of 2296-2302 AM (1708-1701 BC). He was 47 years old at the time and had four named sons: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

In his deathbed blessing of Naphtali, Jacob said this:

Naphtali is a doe set free that bears beautiful fawns. Genesis 49:21

Naphtali in fiction[edit]

Naphtali appears in many motion picture and television projects depicting the life and career of Joseph. Because Naphtali's role is relatively undistinguished, the portrayals of him in these projects is probably accurate enough.
