Homework Ten Answers - Student Seven

From Conservapedia

1. I picked the cartoon question, answer (a) is unreasonable, as in 1858 the stars and bars flag shown on the slavery side was not yet invented and it is shown at a downward angle. Answer (d) is also impossible, as Lincoln was already dead at the time. Answer (b) is not completely unreasonable, but answer (c) fits the lock much better, as there was a presidential election in 1864.

Right. Good analysis.

2. Zeppelins, hydrogen filled dirigibles, were used in WW1 by the Germans for bombing raids; they were very influential in WW1 and were almost unstoppable until the airplane. Airplanes took down these massive flying fortresses using special incinerator ammunition that would ignite the hydrogen gas, bringing down the zeppelin in a enormous ball of fire. Soon after this, Germany stopped using zeppelins in war. After the war, zeppelins were used for luxury transportation, with the greatest of these being the Hindenburg. The last of these, the Graf Zeppelin, was dismantled during WW2 for the steel.

Fascinating explanation! Could use as a model answer.

3. I think that the Scopes trial was pointless. I think that Darrow ended it so abruptly because he was afraid of being humiliated by what Bryan would ask him.

Right.

4. I think that the Wright brothers were the most influential during this time period, because they gave man the inspiration to create new things. The right brothers’ airplane was also a very influential in The Great War.

Superb answer.

5. Debate: Was it discriminatory not to include girls and women in this draft? I think that is discriminatory, but for the good of the entire country. If they drafted both men and women than the whole working force of the U.S would be at war and there would be no one backing up the men at war.

Interesting explanation of why the policy was for the good of the nation.

6. The 16th amendment ratified on 2/3/1913. It gave the government the power to collect a national income tax.

The 17th amendment, ratified on 4/8/1913, made it so that senators are elected by popular vote. The 18th amendment, ratified on 1/16/1919, prohibited the manufacture, sale, or transportation of liquor containing alcohol.

The 19th amendment, ratified on 8/18/1920, made it so that the rights of any citizen may not be denied or abridged due to the person’s sex.

Correct.

7. I think that the cartoon is simply illustrating Teddy Roosevelt bringing Russia and Japan together to make peace.

Correct again.
