The River Severn is the longest river in Great Britain, rising on Plynlimon and running through Llanidloes, Welshpool, Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth., Bewdley, Stourport, Worcester, Tewkesbury and Gloucester before debouching into the Bristol Channel.
It has a famous tidal bore, one of only a handful of surfable tidal waves in the world, on which the surfing record for the longest ride was set in 1996, a 5.7 mile ride taking over 40 minutes.[1]
