Pyongyang (Hangul: 평양 직할시) is the capital city of North Korea, and also incidently the most populous, and wealthy city in the impoverished nation. It is located stradling the Taedong River, and has a supposed population of 3,225,388.[1]
In the Korean War, Pyongyang Airport was the target of the first US Navy airstrike of the war.[2] B-29s attacked Pyongyang several times over the course of the war, and on at least two occasions dropped incendiary bombs in an effort to burn the city. However, both raids were in January 1952, and the snow on the roofs limited the bombs' effectiveness.[3]
Because of a coronavirus spread in 2020, Kim Jong-un departed from Pyongyang that year "for a considerable time".[4]
