A griffon (sometimes spelt gryphon or griffin) is a mythical beast with the head and wings of an eagle and the hindquarters and bravery of a lion. Griffons are sometimes shown with the front legs of an eagle (with talons), and sometimes with those of a lion. Griffons are often found in heraldic designs, and in Medieval times the griffon was sometimes used to symbolise the dual nature of Jesus Christ. More recently, a griffon appears on the badge of the (originally) British car company Vauxhall and is the symbol of the Brentford FC soccer club from West London.
