Joshua Haldeman (1902–1974) was a chiropractor and political figure in Canada who later moved to South Africa.[1] Haldeman is also the maternal grandfather of businessperson Elon Musk.[2]
Haldeman was born in 1902 to John Elon Haldeman and Almeda Jane (Norman) Haldeman. John developed diabetes ill. Amanda earned a degree in chiropractor and became the first chiropractor known to practice in Canada. Her training and care allowed John to live until 1909. [1]
Joshua graduated in 1926 from the Palmer College of Chiropractic with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Joshua has highly involved in the development of chiropractor education in Canada and the advancement of that profession. He served on the Saskatchewan province’s first board of examiners and the provincial society’s first executive board. [1]
Joshua was a socialist. He also served as the research director for the Technocracy movement of Canada, which resulted in his arrest as a member of an illegal organization. He later served as national chairperson of the Social Credit Party of Canada during the second world war. He made an unsuccessful bid for parliament. He continued his activities, including a boycott of Coca Cola.[1][2][3]
In 1950, Joshua and family moved to South Africa and established a chropractic practice there. [1]
Joshua was the maternal grandfather of businessperson Elon Musk. Joshua's involvement in Technocracy apparently has had some influence on Elon's thinking. "In 2019, Musk tweeted, “accelerating Starship development to build the Martian Technocracy.”[2]
