Presidential Succession Act

The Presidential Succession Act is an act of Congress which designates the Order of succession should the president and the vice president become incapacitated. Succession is authorized by article 2, section 1 of the Constitution.

The act has been renewed or amended several times since it was first introduced in 1792: once in 1886, again in 1947, and the last revision was in 2006.
