The Queen of Sheba was a wealthy ruler from the south who visited Solomon to test him with questions. As described in 1 Kings 10:1-13, the Queen of Sheba was satisfied with all of Solomon's answers and convinced about his great wisdom, and then gave him the equivalent of about 4 tons of gold in tribute.
The reference to the "Queen of the South" in Matthew 12:38-42 and Luke 11:31 is presumably a reference to the Queen of Sheba in the Old Testament.[1]
