Monday Night Football

From Conservapedia

Monday Night Football has been a mainstay of sporting television since 1970. After a 36-year run on ABC, the program moved to ESPN in 2006.

Broadcasting a National Football League game at 8PM Eastern Time, it is the final game of the football week, with the other games being played mostly on Sunday (a game is broadcast on Thursday -- not just on Thanksgiving but throughout the season, and upon completion of the college football regular season games are also broadcast on Saturday).

One of the more famous group of announcers from the 1970s into the early 1980s consisted of ex-football players Frank Gifford and Don Meredith, along with famous (and often controversial) sports announcer Howard Cosell.

Due to the majority of playoff teams having been already decided by the final week of the season, no Monday night game is played on the last week (to make up for it, often two games are broadcast the first week, a home game from an East Coast team followed by a home game from a West Coast team). However, beginning with the 2022 playoffs, one wild-card game will broadcast on Monday night as the network's final game (unless ESPN is set to broadcast the Super Bowl that year).
