Texas Water

Texas water is primarily groundwater (75%) for its drinking water, while its overall water consumption for all purposes is:

• 56% from groundwater;
• 42% was surface water;
• 2% from the reuse of treated wastewater.

Texas has 32 aquifers overall, while 9 of them supply 97% of the groundwater used in Texas.

In the summer of 2022, 89% of Texas was under an extreme or exceptional drought.

In the summer of 2023, 27% of Texas is in a drought, and nearly half is exceptionally dry.^[1]
