Homework Ten Answers - Student Five

1. I missed question 16 about choosing an example that did not show Washington's leadership. First, I did not read the question carefully enough so I was not able to answer the question correctly. Second I could have used process of elimination to get closer to the answer, him voluntarily giving up power as president is a great aspect of leadership, when he led men to eastern Pennsylvania to put down the Whisky Rebellion is also a good leadership aspect. The answer I chose was him presiding over the Constitutional Convention and remaining impartial the whole. This was a foolish answer to pick. The correct answer fits the question perfectly, he served as Chief Justice of the United States and rewrote laws from the bench. That was not the best thing for him to do so that was the only answer that made sense of the question.

Right, and note that George Washington never served on the U.S. Supreme Court at all. The "Chief Justice of the United States" is the same person who is the Chief Justice on the Supreme Court. Today it is Chief Justice John Roberts. In the early 1800s it was Chief Justice John Marshall.

2. The roots of WW1 were in the Triple Alliance, which was a secret military alliance between Italy. Germany and Austria-Hungary between 1882 and 1914. In the meantime, the Triple Entente was formed in 1907 between France, Great Britain and Russia, in which they allied themselves within each other based on several treaties. These alliances led to WW1.

Excellent.

4. I believe that Teddy Roosevelt was the most influential at this time. He was another of these was heroes who became a president. But unlike the last war hero president, Ulysses S. Grant, Roosevelt was a very good president. He helped end the Russo Japanese War, broke up Monopolies and his greatest accomplishment was the Hay-Bunau-Varrila Treaty of 1903. A treaty with Panama which granted to the United States a five-mile wide tract of land to build the Panama Canal, for a fee of ten million plus two hundred and fifty thousand a year.

Great substance in your answer, but note that your last sentence is not a complete sentence because it lacks a verb.

5. Debate: Should government be able to establish different working conditions for women as compared to men? How about in the case of working conditions that may be harmful to pregnancy or potential pregnancy?

I think that we could cut women that are pregnant or women have something like that some slack but if they are in perfect medical condition i say no because it would be their choice on what working conditions they would be in. If a women chose to work in a garbage building that would be her choice.

OK, but it's also a matter of what makes for the best military. By analogy, it's not an individual's choice whether he will play on the New York Giants football team; it's more a question of what the team needs to defeat the competition.

7. The Cartoon shows Teddy Roosevelt forcing Russia and Japan to Stop fighting and come to an agreement to end the Russo- Japanese War. Depicting Roosevelt as an angel to me shows that the cartoonist was in full support of what Roosevelt was doing

Excellent.
