The South Dakota Appointment of the Superintendent of Public Instruction Amendment, also known as Amendment E, was on the November 5, 1968 ballot in South Dakota as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was defeated. The measure would have provided that the state superintendent of public instruction be appointed for a two year term by the governor, rather than be elected.[1][2]
