A pharmacy is a store that sells prescription drugs. In the U.S., pharmacies are commonly called drugstores. The word pharmacy derives from the Greek pharmakeia, via the Old French farmacie, and Medieval Latin pharmacia, which means "use of drugs or medicines". This word derives from pharmakeus which means "preparer of drugs," which refers to pharmakon "drug, poison, philter, charm, spell, enchantment."
A licensed professional who works at a pharmacy is referred to as a "pharmacist" or "druggist". Their assistants are titled, "pharmacy technicians" and they may or may not have taken a formal training course depending on the employer's policy.
