Also included should be the world-renowned cartoonist Charles Schulz ("Peanuts") and the Nobel Prize-winning songwriter Bob Dylan, both of whom were from Minnesota. Popular musician and songwriter Prince (musician) was also from the Midwest.
The Midwest literary style is less pretentious and more direct. Some of it has a sweetness to it, or an innocence. There is a health skepticism, like the "Show Me State" motto of Missouri.
Moral values are strong in much of Midwest literature, such as F. Scott Fitzgerald's early works.
