The Seraphim are the highest choir of angels in Heaven. They are said to be beings of light and fire with six wings - two to carry them, 2 to shield the face and 2 to shield their feet. They are described in the Book of Isaiah as forming a double choir around the Heavenly Throne and their voices shake the foundations of the palace.
The name is derived from the Hebrew saraph, which means "to consume with fire". This meaning refers to Isaiah 6:6, where one of the Seraphim carries a coal of fire from the altar to purify the Prophet's lips.[1]
