Maurists

Maurists were the French Benedictine monks of the Congregation of St. Maur. Founded under Richelieu in 1621, the Marists later excelled at scholarly writing. Their leading authors included:

This order was hurt when several of its monks associated with Jansenism, and its numbers dwindled. Pope Pius VII dissolved this order in 1818.
