Pamplona (Iruñea in Basque) is the capital of Navarre, in northwestern Spain. The city has about 195,650 inhabitants (2016). It was founded by Pompey (Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus) in 75 B.C.[1]
The city is famous for its annual Fiesta de San Fermin, from July 6 to 14. During these days bulls are run through the streets to the bullring, driven behind crowds of around 2000 or 3500 skillfully dodging runners.[1][2] Since 1974 women are no longer banned from running the bulls in Pamplona, but most runners are male.[3][4] Bulls are then killed in bullfights in the afternoon.[1]
