NatalieD- IN PROGRESS

1. I think the 2008 election is very similar to the Jackson election of 1824. His landslide victory in the presidential election of 1828 is similar to the landslide that Obama won over McCain. Also, the middle and lower class voters loved Jackson as much as the upper class disliked him. This is very similar, as many lower class, uneducated, and young people support Obama, while those who are educated and know what he really is strongly dislike him.

Excellent! Will use as a model.

2. I think that imperialism is usually a good thing, when not taken advantage of. It gives a nation valuable protection, as well as more land and resources. An example is when Cuba wanted independence from Spain, America helped it, and in turn is now allowed to keep a naval base on the island which has helped with American military operations. In this case, imperialism was good for both American and the other nation they were taking over.

Superb.

3. The progressive movement greatly benefited America. Better government is always wanted. Several extremely significant things that it accomplished included suffrage for women, giving them the right to vote, a civil service system instead of the spoils system, aid to farmers, and much more. The child labor laws and the laws against sweatshops provided better safety and kept small children from being worked hard in hazardous environments. The progressive movement did all this and much more, significantly benefiting America.

Good analysis.

4. The cartoon portrays President McKinley's choice about what to do with Cuban, after America won the Spanish-American war. American newspapers opposed the return of Cuba to Spain, because they feared the mistreatment of the Cubans. The artist seems to believe that McKinley will ignore Cuba and give it back to Spain, as McKinley appears with a frown and a tight grip on the Cuban child. He looks as though he is going to throw the Cuban off the “Spain” cliff.

Almost. Replace "Cuba" with the "Philippines" and your answer would be perfect! (Minus 1).

H1. Do you agree with how the United States finally ended the fighting in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War? I do agree with the way the United States ended the fighting in the Phillippines, which was very fierce and cost lots of lives and money. By wiping out all of the rebelling insurgents, the US brought a swift end to a violent battle.

Good.

H2) The support the newspapers gave and still continute to give Obama is very similar to the yellow journalism of the 1890’s. You would rarely see something against Obama in the news or the papers, even though he has little experience in anything, suggestive Muslim backgroung, and no birth certificate. There were many different things critizing McCain, who had a lot of experience and sure, steadfast motives. Many people, especially the media, supported Obama because he’s new, different, cool, and radical. People love that, especially young people, and of course many people voted for him because of his color. So although he didn’t have the things that should really matter, like experience and good plans, he had style, which McCain didn’t. This caused much of the media to be very biased toward this election.

Excellent.
Terrific work again! Score: 59/60.--Aschlafly 20:01, 15 November 2008 (EST)
