Tennessee State Capitol

The Tennessee State Capitol typifies Greek Revival Architecture in the United States, designed by William Strickland and built between 1845 and 1859. This magnificent structure became a source of pride for the southern State of Tennessee, as it joined the Confederacy.

In 1920, it was a vote in this Capitol building that completed the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, adding it to the United States Constitution.

The Tennessee State Capitol is one of the few remaining antebellum capitols continuing to function for official business. It has been historically preserved in 1987 and 2012.
