Bard College is a liberal arts college located in Annandale, New York. The campus consists of two estates, Annandale, which was the estate of its founder, John Bard, and Montgomery Place, and adjacent 380-acre estate acquired in 2016.

History[edit]

Bard was founded as St. Stephen’s College in 1860 by the Episcopal Church in New York City. In 1928, St. Stephen’s became an undergraduate school of Columbia University. In 1934, it was renamed after its founder, John Bard. In 1944, Bard terminated its association with Columbia and started to admit women students. In 2003, Bard opened the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College, a venue designed by Frank Gehry.[3]
