Pineal Gland

The pineal gland is a central gland that rests squarely above the superior colliculous. Descartes believed that the soul communicated with the body by using the pineal gland to pump cerebrospinal fluid; however, this assertion was based on Descartes' mistaken belief that only humans had pineal glands. In fact, many animals do as well.
