Pacer

PACER is an acronym standing for "Public Access to Court Electronic Records", which allows members of the public to electronically obtain documents filed in the United States federal court system by paying a per-page charge. In 2008, Aaron Swartz downloaded and released about 2.7 million documents stored in the PACER database. The FBI investigated his actions, but did not file charges. Customers using Firefox have the option of saving retrieved PACER documents in the Internet Archive using a plug-in called RECAP. This allows the public to access those saved documents free of charge.^[1]
