An effort in Mountain Home, Idaho, to recall Mayor Rich Sykes was initiated in June 2020. Recall organizers failed to submit enough signatures to put the recall election on the ballot.[1][2]

Recall supporters[edit]
Petitioners accused Sykes of using a police training facility to work out while private gyms in Mountain Home were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Sykes was also accused of damaging financial stability and the freedom of residents and small businesses with lockdown orders.[1]
Recall opponents[edit]
In response to the recall effort, Sykes said, "I am proud of the work that we have done as a City thus far and look forward to continued progress in the coming years. I love this city too much to be bullied into silence by those who feign outrage to advance their own agenda."

A recall election for a city official requires valid signatures equal to at least 20 percent of the number of electors registered to vote at the last general city election held in the city for the election of officers. Circulation of the recall petition must be completed within 75 days after the form of the recall petition is approved for circulation.
Petitions were approved for circulation on June 16, 2020. Recall organizers were required to submit 1,255 valid signatures by August 31, 2020, to put the recall election on the ballot.[1][2]
