American History Homework Three Answers - Student Ten

From Conservapedia

1. Identify two weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.

A)The Articles of Confederation did not allow a president to be elected. Many people liked it that way because they had come to America to get away from the strict European politics. But America had too many crucial decisions to make. Without a President, decisions would be made too slowly to meet the needs of the newly born nation.

B)Ever since the establishment of the Confederation, there were major financial problems. Everything they did to correct their problems sent them further into debt. Nothing was effective in improving the economy. A new form of government was clearly needed to hold the country together.

Excellent, but your second point does not specify a weakness in the Articles of Confederation itself. Be sure to always answer the question that is asked. (Minus 1).

2. Identify the first three Articles of the Constitution, and what each Article establishes.

Congress is established in Article I. Article II establishes the amount of power that the President has. In Article III the Supreme Court is established.

Correct.

3. Explain what you like most about George Washington.

What I like most about George Washington is his ability to be incredibly powerful and incredibly humble at the same time. He never got full of himself. His ambitions were centered on what was best for others.

Superb.

4. Describe the most important invention of the 1790s, and its political impact.

Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. This invention made the South prosper. Through the effectiveness of the cotton gin, the South became the primary source of cotton production in the entire world. The cotton gin essentially gave the South a huge advantage when the Civil War came around. The amount of money that they earned from cotton made them nearly invincible.

Excellent again.

5. Explain the political view expressed by this week's cartoon, and which side of what issue the cartoonist likely represents.

This cartoon depicts the ratification of the Constitution by the states as the construction of a building. The columns representing Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Connecticut are already in position because those states had already ratified the Constitution. A pair of hands (most likely God's) are shown lifting the Massachusetts column into an upright position alongside the others. This cartoon expresses how the colonies were seeing how they needed to be one nation under God in order to succeed. It was published in the Massachusetts Centinel anonymously on January 30, 1788.

Superb analysis. I particularly like the "one nation under God" part!

6. Describe two significant achievements of The Northwest Ordinance.

A)It protected individual rights such as religious freedom and property stability. The government could not come and kick people off their land.

B)It also was a wonderful success in setting a way to establish states in a peaceful way.

Good.

7. Describe what you think was most significant about John Adams' presidency John Adams pretty much failed as President. The most significant thing about his presidency was how he made a law against people criticizing him. This was unconstitutional as well as incredibly immature.

Well done!
