American History Homework One[edit]

1. Spanish, English, French

Correct.

2. I find Columbus's great perseverance extremely inspiring.

Good!

3. I think there are several reasons that some early american settlements failed. For one, there were many diseases in America that settlers cought. Many american settlements knew very little about the bare basics of living, like building houses and gathering food in order to survive. If you look at the Pilgrims, there was a point at which they probally would have all died if it were not for the help that the indians gave them.

Good substance in your answer, but work on your spellings and capitalization.

4. Most of the People that settled in Massachusetts wanted to get away from the oppression of the Church of England. The mainstream puritans and the pilgrims had one main difference. The pilgrims, wanted to totally separate from the Church of England while the puritans wanted to purify the church from the inside.

Superb.

5. William Penn was 'remarkable' in many ways. The one which I find the most amazing is that the principles which he set forth in Pennsylvania’s government, such as the freedom of religion, became the inspiration for our Constitution!

Good.

6. Joint-stock Colony: Virginia, Massachusetts Bay Charter Colony: Connecticut, Rhode Island Proprietary Colony: Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York Royal Colony: Virginia

Correct.

7. I believe that the triangular trade is not a controversy but rather a matter of record. There is much evidence that many triangular trades DID exist, such as the 18th century trade between West Africa, the West Indies, and Europe, The "sugar triangle" where American ships took local produce to Cuba, then brought sugar or coffee from Cuba to St Petersburg, then bar iron and hemp back to New England. There were, in history many triangular trades, there is really no controversy.

OK, good explanation, though it's not clear what, if any, significant goods were taken to West Africa.

Honors[edit]

H2. The Massachusetts Bay Company was a joint stock company when established by royal charter in 1629. Its purpose was to encourage colonization and trade along the Merrimack and Charles rivers in New England. The Company's Puritan stockholders soon had total control and elected John Winthrop as the Governor. The Massachusetts Bay Company and the Massachusetts Bay Colony became the same thing.

Good.

H3. I think that the Roanoke or "Lost" colony probally were driven to live with the indians by lack of food and then wiped out by The weroance Chief Wahunsunacock (better-known as Chief Powhatan) who told John Smith that he had Massacred the Roanoke settlers because they were living with the Chesepian tribe. Powhatan also backed up his story by producing several English-made iron tools.

Superb analysis.

H4. Mercantilism is the concept that a country can increase its wealth by exporting more goods than importing and by doing so gaining more money than spending. All in all, i think it is a very good idea.

Good, but could also include a description of how the colonies supplied raw materials to the mother country (England). (Minus 1)
Superb start! Score: 99/100.--Aschlafly 23:34, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
