Firn

From Conservapedia

A firn (a.k.a. Névé) is a dense, icy pack of snow.[1] If left alone, it will soon become solid glacial ice, but is at this particular stage still granular. The name for this formation actually means "of last year" in German, probably because the snow in firns is old. Officially, a firn is recognized as an impermible frozen mass, with a density between 0.4 and 0.84 grams per cubic cm, with a grain size between 0.5 and 5 mm.[2]
