American Academy Of Arts And Letters

The American Academy of Arts and Letters is a federally chartered organization of artists, composers, writers, and architects dedicated to keep an interest in the aforementioned fields. This is done through prizes, exhibits, and performance. There are 250 total members of this honor society, who are elected for life. Founded in 1898, the Academy was chartered by President William Howard Taft in 1913. Current and former members include Jasper Johns, I.M. Pei, Gore Vidal, Elie Wiesel, Aaron Copland, and E.E. Cummings.
