For a more detailed treatment, see Asterix (character).
Asterix is a small, shrewd warrior with a love for perilous adventures.
French:Astérix (a star). His name has never been changed by translation.
Obelix is Asterix's closest friend. He is a tall, extremely strong, overweight menhir delivery man, and is often shown carrying one. His immense strength comes from falling into a cauldron of magic potion when he was an infant. For this reason,. Getafix the druid will not allow him to have any potion because of harmful side effects, something that Obelix hates and often tries to bypass. He has a voracious appetite for wild boar.
French: Obélix (obelisk: a tall, narrow, four-sided, tapering monument which ends in a pyramid like shape at the top)
Getafix is the village druid. He is an old, whitebearded man who always wears a red cloak and carries a golden sickle to cut mistletoe. He has the ability to brew the strength potion and many other medicines and potions. Often the central cause of Asterix and Obelix's adventures is because of him or his potion.
French: Panoramix (wide view)
First appearance: Asterix and the Banquet.
Dogmatix is Obelix's pet dog. He is very tiny, but, like his master, can eat huge amounts of food. He loves nature and hates it when anyone knocks down a tree. He met Asterix and Obelix in Asterix and the Banquet. Although he is fairly smart, he is useless following a trail—whenever given a trail to follow, he will find a menhir.
French: Idéfix (ideé fixe)
Cacofonix is the village bard. He enjoys singing and playing his musical instruments, but the other villagers hate his horrible singing.
Fulliautomatix is the village blacksmith. He has a forceful and often violent personality, and is the villager most stridently opposed to Cacofonix's singing.
