American History Homework Assignment 3

1. Two weaknesses in the Articles of Confederation are the National government could not enforce any of the law that it made, and the government could not place taxes.

Correct.

2. The first three Articles of the Constitution are Articles I: the Legislatives Branch. Article II: Executive Branch. Article III: the Judicial Branch. Congress is established in article I. the president is established in article II.

Correct.

3. I like George Washington’s great leadership abilities the most.

Good.

4. The most important invention of the 1790’s was the cotton gin. It allowed to South to produce 50 times the amount of cotton. It gave the south the name, “King Cotton”.

Good, explain the invention a bit more. (Minus 1).

5. The cartoonist was most likely a Federalist. Only five colonies are represented standing up in the cartoon. Massachusetts appears to be falling over. Massachusetts went along with the constitution, but then decided to break away from it.

Good, but not quite. Massachusetts ratified the Constitution too, becoming the sixth state to do so. (Minus 1).

6. Two significant achievements of The Northwest Ordinance were it established a three-stage process based on population for the new states to be created and join the Confederation, and it was the first to protect territories against the taking of property by government without just compensation.

Excellent.

7. John Adam’s presidency was a complete failure. It just kept becoming worse. The thing that stands out the most though is that he made a law that it was a crime to criticize him. He made a law against the constitution that had just been written.

Superb.

8. H2. I believe that the Anti-Federalists had some good points. They did not want to establish a new government after they had just gotten rid of the old one.

Superb.

9. H4. In Shays’ Rebellion, Shay and his gang kept on attacking and capture until they were forced to run from the overpowering militia. In the Whiskey Rebellion, started attacking everything. George Washington told the governor to put the rebellion down, but was too afraid to do so. George Washington then brought an army down, and before a shot was fired all the rebels fled. I believe it is necessary to have a good, strong president.

Excellent.

10. H5. Jefferson and Madison responded to the Alien and Sedition Acts by drafting strong state resolutions, to “nullify” them as unconstitutional. I would agree with them in their approach because the Alien and Sedition Acts were unconstitutional.

Well done.
Terrific work. Score: 98/100.--Aschlafly 22:00, 3 October 2008 (EDT)
