History and League Success[edit]

The Saints entered the NFL as an expansion team in 1967. The original announcement was made on November 1, 1966; as November 1 is All Saints' Day in Catholicism, and New Orleans (and south Louisiana) is heavily Catholic, the Saints became the team name.

Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans' home stadium (the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which is one of the premier large-venue facilities in the United States, hosting seven Super Bowls), the Saints played their 2005 season in Baton Rouge and San Antonio.

The Saints have won their only Super Bowl appearance, in 2010.
