A disciple of R. Johanan, and a teacher in the third amoraic generation. Because of his cognomen he is erroneously supposed to have been the son of R. Abbahu of Cæsarea (Abbahu II.; Yer. Ber. 4, 8 c ; Yer. M. Ḳ. iii. 82 c ; Bab. ibid. 20 b ).
