Redbrick universities is a term used in Britain to describe those universities founded in the late nineteenth and early-mid twentieth centuries; they are sometimes also known as 'civic universities', founded as an expression of civic pride by cities which had prosperede and grown during the Industrial Revolution.
Redbrick universities include the Universities of Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Leeds, Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Reading, Exeter, Southampton and the federal University of Wales.
