Shah Abbas The Great (or Abbas I) was born in 1557 died in 1628.[1]

Shah Abbas The Great was the fifth ruler of Persia's Safavid dynasty from 1588 to 1628. He was a good military leader who both made peace with the Ottomans and forced the Uzbek Turks out of the Eastern part of Iran. The safavid dynasty reached its highest achievements during his reign.

After strengthening the Safavid dynasty by defeating the Turks and Uzbeks, he made Isfahan his capital in 1598 (in succession to Kazvin) and transformed it into a great city. Though cruel to his family, he was a great patron of art, architecture and garden design.
