Final Fantasy VI (ESRB rating: E10+/T) is the sixth video game within the Final Fantasy series. It was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and was titled Final Fantasy III in North America to keep the numbering consistent with the two previous Final Fantasy released there at the time: Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy IV (similarly named Final Fantasy II for its original North American Super Nintendo release). All of the game's re-releases were renamed Final Fantasy VI like its original Japanese title. The North American tradition of renaming Final Fantasy games according to their release order ended with the follow-up title, Final Fantasy VII.
Final Fantasy VI is notably more mature than earlier games in the series, dealing with themes of despair, suicide, nihilism,[1] and euthanasia.[2]. Final Fantasy VI features extensive scored music and a remarkably large cast of playable characters.
The game begins with a mysterious magic wielding woman called Terra who is being mind controlled as a weapon by an evil empire. She is saved by the Returners, a rebel group fighting back against the Emperor Gustav. Terra joins their ranks, and the player follows their adventures to the sundering of the world and beyond.
The remake of Final Fantasy VI (which was released on Gameboy Advance in 2007) added 2 bonus dungeons, Dragon's Den and Soul Shrine which contain some new enemies and bosses. There are also new bonus bosses outside of those bonus dungeons including Gilgamesh, Leviathan and a Giant Cactuar. The remake also fixes the vanish doom bug of the original, causing bosses to much harder as a result.
