Aperture

In photography, the aperture is the opening in a camera lens that light passes through. The term "f-stop" is generally used to notate the diameter of the aperture. A large aperture, or low f-stop, will allow more light to be exposed to the film or image sensor. Low f-stops will also result in a smaller depth of field.
