Thompson Submachine Gun

The Thompson submachine gun is the first submachine gun ever manufactured. It was created by United States Army officer John T. Thompson in the 1910s, and was manufactured by the Auto-Ordnance Corporation of Massachusetts. It is often called the "tommy gun", the "chopper," or the "Chicago typewriter."

It is most commonly associated with 1930s-era gangsters such as Al Capone and John Dillinger, and it was a common sight in 1930s gangster movies such as The Public Enemy and Little Caesar. It was used by the U.S. military from World War II to the early Vietnam War.
