The Thunder Rolls is a country song by Garth Brooks, released in April 1991 as the fourth and final release from his album No Fences.
The song is about a man who is driving home in a torrential storm from "somewhere that he never should have been" (implying he was carrying on an affair), while his wife is worried about his safety due to the bad weather. He returns home, but she smells perfume (not hers) on him, thus realizing he has not been faithful.
The original song contained a fourth verse which was not included on either the single or the album, due to its content: the fourth verse indicates that after she discovers his infidelity (and implying it wasn't his first time), she returns to the bedroom and grabs a pistol, intending to murder him. The verse, however, is played at his concerts.
