A rook is a piece in chess that becomes enormously important in the endgame.
A few tips about rooks:
- Doubling up two rooks on a column nearly triples their power, and can enable checkmate of an opponent.
- Rooks are most effective on open columns where they can reach the back rows of an opponent.
- Castling is an effective way to unleash the power of a rook.
- While the queen is the most effective piece on the board, two rooks are usually more powerful than one queen.
