American History

Homework Assignment 11

1. History can teach people mistakes made in the past and can allow one to decide how not to make the same mistake.

Correct.

2. I believe that the United States was right to enter World War II. It would have been good for us to have entered the war sooner. Britain might not have been bombed and the bombing at Pearl Harbor might not have happened.

Good.

3. I like the when America allowed the Irish into America when they had the potato famine. I probably wouldn’t be here if it were not for that (I’m part Irish).

Good personal example!

4. I like that the economy was and business was good best during the Roaring Twenties.

Good.

5. I am not a big fan about the new deal. I am not one for the government taking over more things. Too much government power is not good. I would not have set up so many government run programs to satisfy the public. If those things needed to be satisfied, someone would have thought about it.

Right, the free market develops to address people's needs.

6. I believe we were right to drop the atomic bomb on Japan. Japan asked for a war, and that’s what they got. If we did not drop the atomic bomb, then many American soldiers would have died.

Good way to phrase it (especially your second sentence).

7. The cartoon shows FDR watching as Truman tries to take over the entire country. It shows that whatever FDR did was small in comparison to Truman.

You're right about history, but not about the cartoon. The House and Senate did not give dictatorial powers to Truman. Instead, Congress gave it to FDR. This is about FDR taking vast new powers in the New Deal. (Minus 1).

8. H1. Throughout the presidential election (especially the democratic candidates) are followers of the people. Whatever the people want in a president that is what the democratic candidate says he will do. When he becomes president, he not really a leader or a follower. He does whatever he pleases to do. The presidency has become bigger than it should.

Excellent answer.

9. H2. FDR should have only let the Japanese bomb one or two ships. If he really knew about the bombing, he should have had a secret attack force to attack the Japanese so America would not have lost all of the men and ships.

Good points.

10. I believe that it is a waste of time to try to create United Nations. No one will ever get every country to join it. Without having 80% of all the countries the world cannot be controlled.

I think the UN has over 80% as members, but that isn't the real problem with it. World governance doesn't work, and undermines our Constitution.
Terrific work. 99/100. Well done!--Aschlafly 21:01, 6 December 2008 (EST)
