Read the lecture and then answer 6 out of the following 9 questions:
1. Identify and briefly describe two major achievements of the "Washington Administration" (the executive branch of government while George Washington was president).
2. The Constitutional Convention: describe the "what, when, where, and how" about it.
3. Identify three of the biggest weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.
4. Identify and briefly discuss two important individual rights protected by the Northwest Ordinance, which later became part of the Bill of Rights.
5. "Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports." From where is that quote taken, and what does it mean to you?
6. Discuss the two important laws that were passed under the Articles of Confederation.
7. President John Adams was only a one-term president. Why?
8. What was the "New Jersey Plan," and how did it influence the "Great Compromise"?
9. Write about any issue related to this week's lecture.
Answer three out of the following questions (in addition to the questions above):
H1. Would you have been an Anti-Federalist with respect to the Constitution? Discuss.
H2. Do you think States have the power of "nullification" with respect to laws passed by Congress? Discuss in the context of the Alien & Sedition Acts.
H3. James Madison's Federalist No. 10, as discussed in the lecture: can you explain and appreciate it?
H4. What would you have done differently if you served as an early President of the United States? Explain.
H5. Recently some have called for a new constitutional convention (a "Con Con"). Do you think there should be another constitutional convention today?
