A fern is a type of plant. Unlike flowering plants, ferns do not produce flowers or seeds. Instead, they reproduce by spores. The fern plan is generally inedible to humans, but some produce fiddleheads which are sometimes cooked and eaten plain or in soups.

Fern leaves are called fronds and in many kinds of ferns are finely divided.
