Curiel

From Jewish Encyclopedia (1906)

Curiel:

A wealthy Marano family which settled in the Netherlands and at Hamburg about the sixteenth century. They intermarried largely with the Da Costa family. In 1682 great excitement was caused at Antwerp by the attempt of the rector of the Church of Saint George to baptize forcibly the son of Diego Curiel, which effort, however, was frustrated. Moses de David Curiel, at the beginning of the eighteenth century, was a well-known London Jew.
