Paul A. Nelson born in 1958 is a young earth creationist and the grandson of the creationist author and Lutheran minister Byron Christopher Nelson with a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Chicago. This apparently allows him to write authoritatively about science, as long as he calls himself a 'philosopher of biology'.[1] He is supposed to be publishing a work criticizing the principle of common descent derived from his thesis, but this has been forthcoming for some time.[2] His unpublished book was described in the wedge document as offering a 'powerful alternative' to evolution, which presumably means it will consist of the same old creationist PRATTs dressed up with scientific jargon and new scientific research being taken entirely out of context. Nelson is a fellow at the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture and an adjunct professor at Biola University's Master of Arts Program in Science & Religion.[3]
