Romanus

Romanus was the name of two martyrs in Christianity:

(1) A Roman martyr Romanus was a companion in the martyrdom of St. Lawrence (10 August, 258)

(2) In 303 or 304, at the beginning of the Diocletian persecution, there was a deacon named Romanus of Caesarea in Palestine who became a martyr for his evangelism in Antioch. When the Emperor Galerius was in Antioch, Romanus was brought before him and the emperor ordered his tongue to be cut out. He was tortured in prison until he was finally strangled.
