Dean Of The United States Senate

The Dean of the United States Senate is an informal title given to the Senator with the longest continuous service, regardless of party. This is not an official position within the Senate. The longest-serving member of the majority party is usually selected to serve as President pro tempore which is an official, Constitutional position. The current Dean is Daniel Inouye of Hawaii.
