American History Homework 10[edit]

James G.

1. I believe I have an understanding of the dates of the terms of the presidents down, the events that coincided during those terms I need to understand better.

OK.

2. I got problem number twelve on the midterm was marked incorrectly. The question had the following quote “He that has gold makes and accomplishes whatever he wishes in the world and finally uses it to send souls to paradise.” The question then asked who said this quote about his mission. I did not recall the answer so I took a guess and said Ralph Waldo Emerson. The answer was actually Christopher Columbus. Interesting how you learn things even in tests.

That was a fascinating question. Educational in its asking!

3. The entire public view of the “Monkey Trial” was nothing but a sham. The bias swing was a mere ghost of what the real outcome of the case was. It’s a tragedy that people would go so far and lie to so many people over a theory like evolution that can’t be proven.

Right.

4. I believe that if we didn’t intervene in the atrocities unleashed upon both sides of World War I that the conflict would have escalated far beyond what the war was. Fueled by the drive of the belief that it is “survival of the fittest” the opposing sides could have been driven so deep into their “races” survival that one side would have purged the other side off the face of the earth in an act that would be very similar to the Holocaust in WWII.

Excellent analysis.

5. Teddy Roosevelt was a president famed for his youthful personality, making the government run better, having a little child best friend named after him (Teddy Bears), and having his face carved into a mountain. He was a man who made quite an impact on the affairs of our country by founding the national park system and upon the world by helping end the Russo-Japanese War.

Good.

6. The probation of alcohol as a result of the 18th Amendment was just asking for trouble. The affects brought about a strong and deep hatred to law enforcement that exists to this day. Turn on a television and watch the shows that our youth are exposed to, the police and other forms of law enforcement aren’t shown in a good light at all. In fact many times you see them as the bad guys in shows. Also cases exist about mayors, governors, and even police members illegally drinking further weakening the respect to people in authority. To top it off the organized crime gangs made a killing by over pricing smuggled alcohol. I believe the idea was noble, but the times we live in are too unstable for such a plan to come to action.

The "prohibition", not "probation", which means something else entirely. Otherwise your analysis is good (but note "effects", not "affects")

7. The cartoon depicts righteous Teddy as he brings those “Naughty” Russians and Japanese ending the Russo-Japanese War. This cartoon is highly in favor of Teddy who is depicted as an angel.

Excellent.
Well done! 70/70. Perfect, in fact. Congratulations.--Aschlafly 20:42, 23 November 2008 (EST)
