Chandragupta

Chandragupta was the founder of the Mauryan Empire in present-day India. Born 340 BC, ruled 320 BC–293 BC.

Chandragupta Mauryan established the Mauryan Empire in 322 B.C. Alexander the Great had conquered mush of India only a few decades before; Chandragupta expanded his realm by seizing these northwestern territories from Selucus Nicator, a Macedonian successor of Alexander’s. The Mauryan Empire grew into a large and powerful nation under the rule of its founder; it was perhaps the strongest Indian empire ever.
