Winchester Cathedral is the Cathedral of the city of Winchester. It is the longest medieval cathedral in Europe.^[1]

• The cathedral, or one of its incarnations since Winchester became a bishopric in 662, is the final resting place of various Saxon kings, of the Danish king Canute in 1035, as well as William Rufus after his death in the nearby New Forest in 1100.
• The current building dates from 1079, however the shrine was destroyed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries during the Reformation and a new one only dedicated in 1962.
• The marriage of Queen Mary I (Bloody Mary) with Prince Philip of Spain took place in the cathedral on 25 July 1554.
• Henry Beaufort was buried in Winchester Cathedral in 1447.
• Izaak Walton, famous for his 'The Compleat Angler was buried there in 1683
• Jane Austen, who wrote Pride and Prejudice amongst other works, was buried there in 1817.
