Alessandro Pavone (born on 5 December 1979) is an Italian cinematographer and documentary producer, known for filming documentaries on armed conflicts and humanitarian issues. At a young age, Alessandro Pavone has gained international fame as a documentary film-maker and cinematographer, his work has been featured on several high tier media outlets such as the BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera and several others.[1][2]
Pavone has a background in journalism and is a Pulitzer Center fellow. From 2005, Alessandro Pavone has filmed several documentaries, most notably “After the fall” and “The Forgotten Heroes of Empire”.
Alessandro Pavone was part of the PBS NewsHour team that received the Overseas Press Club citation in the Edward R. Murrow Award for "The Fight for Iraq" series filmed for PBS NewsHour. In 2019, his documentary “After The Fall” based on Syria received a nomination for the Scripps Howard Awards. Pavone is also a member of the Frontline Freelance Register and is enrolled in the Italian order of journalists from 2009.[3][4]
Alessandro Pavone was born in Taranto, Italy. He attended Università LUMSA and completed a master’s degree course in communication and broadcast journalism. Pavone also received an Erasmus scholarship in Portugal. In 2018, Alessandro Pavone completed “ACOS Alliance Hostile Environment Training courses”, that helped him in learning how to film crises in the midst of countries like South Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Somalia.[5] Pavone is fluent in English, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.[6]
