Punch

Punch (full title: Punch, or the London Charivari) was a British humorous magazine founded in 1841 and closed in 2002. For most of the twentieth century it was noted for the quality of its contributors, who included some of the country's finest writers and cartoonists. In the 1990s, after a period of closure, it was acquired by the businessman Mohammed al Fayed and relaunched as a satirical journal but, lacking the impact of Private Eye, failed to prosper and ceased publication in 2002.

The magazine was named after the children's puppet character Punch of the Punch and Judy Show, a traditional seaside entertainment deriving from the renaissance Harlequinade.
